LO3 genera

  LO3 Genre theory genre:   Genre is a way of categorizing a particular media types according to its content and style. genre can be judged through the: generic conventions/ characteristics/elements or tropes themes specific codes and conventions that are expected by the audience type of product  film genres : sifi,romance, Rom-com, comedy, horror, thriller, slasher,  e.g. horror - monster / evil - violence / blood  - jump scare - sound  - editing - prince / princes character - needs saving  - derelict house vast open space  - low key lighting  The genre of my product: rim of the world is a sifi, action, comedy  sifi : aliens, space ships, a heroic protagonist, antagonist, fast editing, advanced technology - SGI ships winning the battle against fighter pilots when the kids are abandoned at the kanoo lake, fighting, nerdy/ smart character (Alex) - "EMP stands for electromagnetic pulse.",  action: explosions ...

what does the term 'representations' mean:    the way aspects of society, such as gender, age or ethnicity, are presented to audiences through careful mediation . media teaches us about people mediation - can be influenced by historical events, representations have been purposefully  constructed or set up to tell the audience a message. nothing on screen happens by accident, production techniques are used to purposely tell you a specific message.  theory: Tim  O'Sullivan (1998) - said for representation to work , there has to be a shared recognition of people and places. All representations therefore have ideologies behind them. LO3 sound

as with the other micro elements/ media language, sound creates a lot of meaning especially emotion from the audience  sound makes films emotive  diegetic - characters in film can here it  sound effect - a singular sound that makes actions more realistic (car chase, rev of the car engen) d ialog - conversations between characters  sound bridge - sound that starts in one scene that carry on into another environment (that is diegetic) non diegetic - characters cannot hear it - unnatural sounds of the environment only the viewer can here it ,added in post production, emphasizes the action taking place sting - sound that acts as a punctuation, high pitch , signal of an enigma incidental music - music that fits the theme of the action taking place , pace and tempo emphasizing the connotations of the action  pace - how fast  tempo - volume  sound task find  Two different scenes using sound effects...

LO3 editing

  Editing involves : transitions - how we go from one shot to another ( cut ),  improvement and changes of errors whilst filming, cross cutting , SFX/ CGI, arranging footage to create a narrative. 'post production techniques' continuity editing - editing that creates a narrative for the audience to understand, it appears  invisible. S hot reverse shot structure -juxtapose two images in order to create a link between them : in conversations, H.p v A, good v evil. h.p v h.p teamwork. A v A teamwork.   shot types : all shot types belong to one of two groups of shot types - ether a type of close up or a type of wide shot. close up : used to show emotions, facial expressions of characters. heroic protagonist = brave in control (mine scared/ fear, creating empathy). props - significant if in a close up (detail) wide shot : location or setting - how characters act in that setting, learning the relationship between characters.  camera movement  camera angles (printed)

Readership : the number of people who read a print product as part of second-hand consumption. trailer expectations - non linear narrative structure  - characters  - music (non diegetic sound)  - scenes from the film  - release date  - costumes  - props - title cards or graphics  - transitions  - creating SPECTICLE and INIGMA (e.g. SFX) - use of close ups (characters) The above list are  codes and conventions :  the ingredients that make up a specific genre of product. macro ideas i.e. : meanings, connotations, themes, messages.  A producer uses micro elements to help  the audience understand a particular genre or product. - mis-en-sen - camera work  - editing  - sound (the things above are also called media language )
